TOPIC: Micro-Aggressions in the Workplace
PROGRAM: We will explore how micro-aggressions operate in the workplace in an effort to move toward more inclusive community. Micro-aggressions are commonplace daily verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicates hostile, derogatory, or negative slights and insults toward members of non-dominant groups. The powers of Micro-aggressions lie in their invisibility to the perpetrator and seemingly plausible explanations for the offending action. Yet, the exchange often leaves recipients feeling undermined or demoralized. Their effects are cumulative and corrosive to the culture of a workplace.

- Understand terminology
- Define micro-aggressions
- Discuss awareness of micro-aggressions in the workplace
- Understand some of the possible responses to and impact of micro-aggressions
- Provide ways to address micro-aggressions and reflect on what change HR professionals can make.
